Jen Fusco Perry, MSEd, MA, holds Masters Degrees in Psychology from the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania (2000) and in Clinical Psychology from La Salle University (2006).
Jen collaboratively and creatively customizes solution-focused treatments with each of her clients, integrating mindfulness techniques with current practices in psychological science. Balancing the concepts of acceptance and loving-kindness for self and others with the desire for personal growth and change, Jen builds on her clients’ strengths and teaches them creative problem-solving skills, empowering them to find authentic self-expression in the world.
“I have a deep respect for my clients who are ultimately the experts on themselves and their lives. Together we build partnerships to find solutions that will work, relying on the client’s knowledge of themselves and my background experience in psychotherapy and mindfulness. This partnership is the heart of therapy. There is a metaphor that I like a lot about the therapeutic relationship that arises from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: both my client and I are climbing our separate mountains. By nature of my vantage point, I can see where the nearest footholds and handholds are for my client; they have to do the climbing, but I have some distance and can help by seeing where they may be successful.”
In all her work, Jen brings a gentle and supportive presence to assist with the overall health and well being of her clients. She has her own dedicated mindfulness practice, which she considers a vital component of her work. In addition to her private practice, she is currently the staff therapist for Tinicum Art and Science, a Zen-inspired alternative high school.
For the past nine years, Jen has worked in a variety of settings including alternative schools, wilderness and residential programs for teens, employee assistance programs, hospital units including inpatient and outpatient oncology, emergency medicine, and outpatient psychotherapy. She has assisted individuals, families, and groups facing difficult challenges including individuals learning how to face life with cancer and chronic pain, teenagers and adults with a history of anger management learning conflict resolution skills, adolescents coming of age in this fast-paced and sometimes overwhelming world, and individuals coping with major life transitions such as parenting teenagers, college-age transitions, life after trauma, adjusting to health changes and disability, and end of life issues. She is sensitive to cultural, religious, and lifestyle differences and is open to working with all people.
